I'm really looking forward to my upcoming trip to India in a few months. It'll be two years since I've been home by the time I visit. In a lot of ways this trip will be bittersweet for me. I've certainly changed from who I was two years ago, and going home will tell me exactly how much. Visiting home after a long time has a way of telling you so. I hope I'm not in for a shock!
What I'm particularly looking forward to is catching up on the culture. I can't wait to get my hands on some Bollywood movie DVD's and updating my Bollywood music collection. I'm also eagerly awaiting the shopping and buying the latest styles of kurtas and chappals. I can tell you Colaba causeway, Janpath and Delhi haat are going to be getting a lot of business from me.
Talking of Janpath and Delhi haat, I'm also really looking forward to going to a dear friend's wedding. It'll be in Delhi, a beautiful city with amazing architecture and a really warm, 'punjabi' charm to it. Can't deny being excited about having a chance to get the traditional clothes out of my wedding trousseau and dress up for the special occasion, chunky jewelery, dramatic makeup et all. And seeing all my friends from Business school! It'll be so great to see how everyone is doing.
And food. How can I leave out food? I'm looking forward to paani puri, sev puri, frankies, dahi batata puri, ragda pattice, kheema paav, imaam ka sherbet (Bhindi Bazaar), Kati rolls in Delhi, Pav Bhaji at Sardar's in Tardeo, Konkan food at Mahesh in Mumbai, Chelo kebabs at Copper Chimney... I better stop before I drain my mouth of a lifetime's supply of saliva.
What I'm NOT looking forward to are eve teasers and gropers. Euuw. Euuww, euww, euwwwww. Mumbai and many Indian cities are quite notorious for their street gropers and a woman must always always be on guard when walking on the streets in India. I will invariably be taking public transport in Mumbai to meet friends across the city. I swear I'm not going to second guess myself for even a second. I'm lifting weights and I'm sure to kick a particular part of the male anatomy if anything funny happens...
But I'm so kicked for the trip. I hope I'm not jinxing it with this excited post. The trip will be short, and really exhausting. I promise to just have fun and eat as much as I can without messing up my tummy. Home. Home! :-)

I may be going back to Delhi this winter also. Looking forward to it for all the reasons you mentioned. :)
Really? Didn't know you were from Delhi. When did you move to the US? Delhi is a fun city if you have the right places to go to. Can't wait...
I would have exactly written this post if I were going any time soon. I'm planning Jan but its still tentative! Enjoy your time girl! Wedding, food and catching up with old friends and family. Life can't get better !
And oh I often wonder as well, how changed my mom would find me after 2+ years. I have not only changed but developed a few things ( I hope mostly good) that I never knew I can be. Besides the whole marriage thing, living alone etc does many things to u as a person!
Kulsum - I know, the first few years of marriage, especially when you're living in a new country really change you no? Thanks for commenting here. I knew you'd relate :)
Thanks this post..
